Total Health Solution: Selecting the prevention plan which best suit your needs

Total Health Solution is a form of personalized healthcare in which programs are specially designed by experienced medical professionals across a multitude of specialized fields. In designing these programs, our team of health professionals maintains a focus on prevention, and takes genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors into account in order to design a “Once that Matters” comprehensive prevention plan which can keep our patients and their families healthier for longer. Such care relies on not only treating the ailment at hand, but also protecting against illness occurring in the first place.

Statistics from Samitivej Hospitals revealed that in 2019,

we were able to detect and prevent dangerous health disorders in over 95%* of patients who attended health screenings.

Total Health Solution can be compared with omakase (a Japanese phrase that directly translates as ‘to entrust’). A culinary style originating from traditional Japanese food, omakase is a way of cooking that is focused on utilizing only the freshest ingredients, carried out by the most experienced of chefs who have a deep level of understanding of their craft. This comparison can be made because Total Health Solution, too, relies on the latest technology (like the best and freshest ingredients) in order to offer patients the most suitable prevention plan available. Patients are cared for in the best possible way, just as they would be treated and cared for if they entered a restaurant specializing in omakase.

Total Health Solution includes:

  • Precision Medicine: Diagnosis, treatment planning, and prevention against future occurrence of disease, through genetic analysis.
  • Anti-Aging: Caring for health from the inside out through in-depth examination and analysis of diverse biological factors, aimed at detecting the early signs of age-related deterioration.
  • Early Detection and Prevention: Protecting against dangerous and often asymptomatic diseases through detailed screening techniques.
  • Divine Reborn: Multidimensional preventive healthcare—unlocking a person’s genetic code alongside care and recommendations regarding lifestyle factors—to develop a personalized health program delivered by your own personal doctor and nursing team.  Click here to read more.

The medical team working at Samitivej Hospital has developed specially-designed, age-specific Total Health Solution programs for the following age groups:

Personalized healthcare for infants and teens aged 0-18 years

“1 in 3 Thai children have lower-than-average IQ and EQ scores, so they should undergo screening at least 3 times (at 9, 18 and between 24–30 months) before they reach the age of 3.”

Each stage of a child’s development is unique and requires a level of detail in terms of healthcare that is much finer than for adults. Examples of such care include emotional and behavioural development, physical growth, vision, hearing, and dental health as well as blood tests aimed at detecting disease. Additionally, there are a number of health assessments that should be carried out alongside vaccinations*. Parents are advised to have their child screened at the following stages:

  • Newborns should attend at least 7 health screening appointments (first at 0-7 days, and then at 1, 2 ,4, 6, 9 and 12 months of age).
  • Toddlers should attend at least 4 health screening appointments (at 18 months and then at 2, 3 and 4 years of age).
  • Children of school age should attend at least 3 health screenings (at 6, 8 and 10 years of age).
  • Adolescents should attend at least 3 health screenings (between 11-14 years, 15-17 years and 18-21 years).

*The World Health Organization recommends that all children be vaccinated to ensure they develop a strong immune system. Has your child received the full complement of vaccinations yet? Newborn – 12 months | 12 months – 12 years

Personalized healthcare for young adults and working-age population aged 19-30 years

This is a stage of our lives during which our health and development generally remain stable. Illnesses occurring during this period are usually a result of lifestyle factors such as work, stress, diet, drinking alcohol and smoking. Common disorders occurring at this stage of life include high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and cancer, with statistics revealing that:

  • Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women. Recommendations made by doctors at Samitivej Hospitals regarding breast cancer screening resulted in 39% of those tested displaying irregularities of some kind. Fortunately, such screening enabled prompt treatment to take place alongside close monitoring of the situation before the cancer was able to develop.
  • Colon cancer can affect anyone of any age, and it is the most common form of cancer among men. Doctors at Samitivej Hospitals recommended that men in the high-risk age group of 45 years and above attend screening, as well as those with relatives who developed the disease prior to their 45th birthday. Based on these recommendations and subsequent screenings at Samitivej, it was found that 75% of those screened had a polyp present in the colon, although these were not yet cancerous. The technique developed in Japan allows doctors to identify and remove flat polyps that are difficult to detect and which can develop into cancer much faster than other kinds.

Our annual health screening retains a high level of importance throughout this period of life. Not only can it offer assessments for various physical considerations, but it can also enable the detection of any irregularities that may be present, giving you the opportunity to consult doctors from a range of disciplinary spheres regarding potential risk factors. Such risks include illnesses that may be common to your family (hereditary disease). This screening process is referred to as early detection and prevention, and is aimed at identifying diseases that may not present any obvious or outwardly visible symptoms.

The immunity provided by childhood vaccinations weaken as we age. For this reason, the World Health Organization recommends vaccinations at different stages of life.Click here for more details.

Personalized healthcare for working-age population and those nearing retirement aged 31-60 years

Our bodies deteriorate as we continue our journey through our working life and as we near retirement. This is due to a number of reasons, including stress, diet, exercise, and rest. If we are unable to find a balance in these areas, our health will deteriorate with increasing speed.

  • Precision medicine enables doctors to make health predictions and prevent illness through the use of next generation sequencing, a technique that relies on genetic assessment to help identify a person’s risk of disease due to heredity or genetic mutation. Such a technique allows for preventive measures to be taken, and test results are now available in a mere 1–2 months (it previously took 6–12 months for results to be returned). Precision medicine can be beneficial in the following areas:
    1. Pregnancy planning in order to ensure healthy offspring.
    2. Planning to protect against a repeated occurrence of disease in a family (genetically transferable diseases present in a family tree), such as cancer, high cholesterol, heart disease and other difficult-to-detect and potentially fatal illnesses.
    3. Treatment planning for those with drug allergies, for instance allergies to seizure medication, HIV drugs and gout medication.

  • Maintaining good health from the inside out through in-depth examination designed to detect the early signs of age-related deterioration. Preventive plans are designed by doctors specialized in Anti-aging medicine, who can respond to the health needs associated with unique lifestyles, including the following groups:
    1. Those who love to exercise, those wishing to take care of their bodies, or athletes who wish to realise their full fitness potential and receive in-depth healthcare.
    2. Vegetarians, those for whom eating a balanced diet is difficult, including those with hectic lifestyles, those with digestion or nutrition absorption issues, or those who wish to understand more about their own unique nutritional needs.
    3. People with metabolic issues, including groups prone to putting on weight who wish to identify safe and effective weight loss techniques.
    4. People with hormonal abnormalities, such as obesity, exhaustion, persistent drowsiness, lack of sexual desire and dull skin.
    5. Those who are regularly exposed to smog and pollution.
    6. People wishing to undergo an annual health check-up that includes in-depth analysis across a comprehensive range, including free radical build-up, nutrition, hormones and hidden inflammation that may be impacting upon their health, and the functioning of their internal organs.
    7. Those who are overworked and who often feel exhausted and run down, and those whose skin doesn’t look bright or radiant and requires urgent vitamin that can aid recovery.

  • Early detection and prevention for diseases that commonly affect people of working-age through near-retirement, and which are often difficult to detect due to the lack of symptoms. The body naturally deteriorates as we age, although this process is hastened depending on numerous factors including lifestyle, stress, diet, exercise, and rest. In addition to healthcare programs designed for each stage of your life, our medical team advises patients on additional screening programs for silent health threats affecting those over age 40, such as sleep apnea, which can increase a person’s risk of acute heart failure by up to 80%.

Personalized healthcare for the elderly aged 60 and above

Research in geriatric medicine has found that many elderly people are prone to developing multiple health disorders at one time, placing them at an increased risk of misdiagnosis should their health assessments not be carried out in a timely and thorough manner. Our screening programs for the elderly consist of the following:

  • General health assessment
  • Memory and brain function assessment
  • Medication administration safety assessment
  • Emotional assessment, including screening for depression
  • Nutritional analysis
  • Balance testing and fall risk analysis
