Comprehensive care and treatment for the elderly to ensure a long and healthy life

The Center for Healthy Aging at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital offers a comprehensive range of services in the form of a “personal health manager”, together with a dedicated team of specialists in geriatric medicine, who are responsible for providing treatment and coordinating with other medical professionals, departments and hospitals that play an important role in the provision of care for the elderly. We have the capabilities to care for you and manage your treatment plan, so that you can relax and enjoy your retired life in a healthy way.

People who come to the Center for Healthy Aging will receive a custom-tailored treatment program, carried out by a specially trained medical team with extensive knowledge in the field of geriatric care. The team consists of geriatricians, nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists and physiotherapists.

Key services on offer at the Geriatrics Center, Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital

1. Health assessments and provision of a comprehensive range of treatments

Studies of geriatric medicine have found that the elderly are at risk of developing several specific types of illnesses due to age-related physiologic changes. This means there is a greater chance of “overlooking” an illness if no systematic screening process is carried out. A thorough health assessment will help evaluate every aspect that could potentially affect the health of an elderly patient, including more accurately identifying diseases and illnesses that are commonly found among the elderly population. The information gleaned from such assessments can also be put to use in the planning of effective treatment programs for each individual patient.

Our screening and assessment program consists of the following:

  • General health assessments
  • Memory and cognitive assessments
  • Safety assessments for medication
  • Mental well-being and depression evaluations
  • Nutritional evaluations
  • Balance evaluations and fall risk assessments
  • Self-care capability evaluations
  • Hearing and sight tests

2. Consultations and health support

  • Advice on how to manage complicated health issues or multimorbidity, including advice related to long-term healthcare plans for the elderly and their families
  • Consultations for geriatrics who take regular medication in large amounts, who have issues with the taking of medication or who are unable to take the medication prescribed by their doctors in a safe and suitable way
  • Consultations on matters regarding malnutrition, boredom with food, weight gain or weight loss
  • Assistance for family members or caregivers who care for elderly patients suffering from dementia
  • Advice for other types of medical conditions common in the elderly, such as osteoporosis, bed sores and insomnia
  • Vaccination services as required by each individual patient
  • Pre-surgery health checks to assess readiness for surgery, as well as continuous post-surgery care
  • The provision of palliative care to patients and related advice for families

3. Coordination of medical teams across all locations

Older adult patients who suffer from health issues and complicated medical conditions are particularly at risk of succumbing to mistakes made by medical teams, for instance when being transferred to another place, such as from a home setting to a hospital, from a hospital to another hospital, or from a hospital back to their home.
The Geriatrics Center carefully coordinates its efforts between each and every relevant department, in order to ensure the safety of our elderly patients. Whenever a patient enters Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, our team will track their care within the first 24 hours after their arrival at the hospital. The team will also coordinate with the patient’s regular doctor who is responsible for their care, as well as staff in various other relevant departments for the duration of the patient’s stay in hospital. This will prevent that vital information is lost and ensure the smoothest experience possible for the patient.

The services on offer at the Geriatrics Center, Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, are available to the following groups:

  • Families or caregivers of patients who are entering old age, or patients who are over 60 years of age
  • Those who are close to retirement age and wish to prepare themselves for old age
  • Those over the age of 60
  • Those who are experiencing symptoms or circumstances commonly found in the elderly, such as forgetfulness, requiring large amounts of medication or suffering from numerous health complications

Our clinic has been designed especially for the elderly, using techniques outlined by the American Medical Association (AMA). Additionally, our international standard-screening processes and treatment programs for the most common illnesses found in the geriatric population have been guided with reference to studies of geriatric care made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the United States. Such attention to detail has been undertaken to ensure that our patients receive the most suitable, effective and comprehensive program of care and treatment available.

With the meticulous care provided by the Center for Healthy Aging at Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, patients and their families can have full confidence in every facet of treatment on offer.
