Exercise Stress Test (EST)
EST measures the electrical activity of the heart while the patient exercises on a treadmill. It is used to detect symptoms or abnormalities, such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, abnormal pulse and changes in the heart's electrical activity.Candidates for EST:
- Heavy smokers or drinkers
- Elderly individuals
- People with other risk factors, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure
- Diabetics
- Those with a family history of heart disease or paralysis
- Individuals experiencing symptoms such as frequent chest pain or tightness, or unusual fatigue
- Those with pre-existing vascular issues
- Patients needing to monitor the progress of heart treatment
Echocardiogram (echo)
This test uses high-frequency sound waves that rebound off the heart to create images of the organ, which allows specialists to observe the thickness of heart tissue, heart muscle function, heart shape and valve operation. It is accurate, safe and painless.Candidates for echo screening:
- Individuals advised by a doctor to screen for abnormalities and for whom the data can aid diagnosis
- Patients needing close monitoring of heart disease
- Patients who need to check the effectiveness of treatment or surgery
- Individuals at risk for heart disease, such as those with abnormal heart murmurs, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) or abnormal EKG results
CT calcium scoring (coronary)
This screening assesses the amount of calcium or calcification in the coronary arteries to identify plaque buildup levels in the artery walls, heart lining or heart valves. This method is convenient, accurate, and reliable.Candidates for CT calcium scoring:
- Those with a family history of heart disease
- Individuals who are regularly exposed to stress, or who engage in risky behaviors such as smoking or consuming alcohol
- People with high blood pressure or high cholesterol
- Diagnosed diabetics
- Those who are overweight or obese
